Poem: Hiding the Hyde

   Hiding the Hyde

by June Nash

through this life I slide

by hiding the Hyde

that’s my ugly side

Only beauty see

Your the one for me

Your my remedy

I do not reveal

the me that is real

that is how I deal

I know the true you

By the things you do

From my point of view

this face isn’t mine

on a mask you dine

on my own I’m fine

Perfection not seek

Just allow me a peek

Won’t think you a freak

when I lower veil

let you cast your spell

your scorn would be hell

I will see your mind

A heart that is kind

To your faults be blind

but you don’t know me

of what you could see

so go away I plea

Together we’ll slide

My Jekyll, your Hyde

You’re my other side

This poem was inspired by the book Player One, written by Ernest Cline.  My book club is currently reading this book.  I’m half way through, so I don’t know how it all ends.

The characters meet online as avatars.  They only know each other as the characters they created.

But isn’t that true of life?  All we really know about each other is what we are willing to reveal.

Poem: Still Life

Still Life

by June Nash

Four apples sitting by a pear

Draped in light that they seem to wear

With dabs and strokes they come alive

As into painting tubes I dive

Palette lined with colors ready

Grasping brushes with hands steady

Brushing gently in varied hues

Seeking secrets from hidden clues

Getting hungry, but not quite done

Just bitty bite from back, just one

Nobody will see, none will know

In finished painting it won’t show

A bite I took, then two, then three

Could not stop apple munching spree

Three apples sitting by a pear

Draped in light that they seem to wear…

I’m taking an oil painting class.  I never used oil paints before.  Instead of doing things my normal way, blundering through the process all trials and error, I decided to let someone  guide me.  Point out the tricks of the trade.

I’m glad I took the class.  I am having so much fun.  I’ve decided I love oil painting!

This painting is actually not done yet.  I still have some finishing touches to apply.  I better hurry, or it will be Two Apples and a Pear.

I text, cracking jokes

Making funny pokes

My humor is dry

Comments often wry

Problem with texting

Humor is missing

Must use smiles or laughs

To prevent freak gaffes

Cannot see my smile

So send LOL

To ease the harsh tone

These texts may have sown

I don’t laugh out loud

Risk drawing a crowd

Or fall on the ground

As laughter abounds

When texting I lie

As my fingers fly

Typing retorts flip

Make smiley face snips

Emoticons viewed

Used to lighten mood

We don’t pee our pants

Just texting these rants
