Mid Winter Blues

 by June Nash

he has the mid winter blues

tired of hearty beef stews

harsh winter winds cutting face

against which he’s forced to brace

icy walks that cause slips

and treacherous driving trips

by fireside his mind drifts

as through travel brochures sifts

dreaming of punches with rum

and becoming a beach bum

skin receiving a light scorch

from the sun’s fiery torch

then with a cough he awoke

dreams flew up chimney with smoke

wrapped in comforter of down

with sore throat and sniffles frown
